George Darko Foundation celebrates Xmas with OTC patients

    Patients of the Orthopedic Training Center (OTC) at Nsawam were not left out the Christmas holiday celebrations as Former Tennis Star George Darko donated items to them on Tuesday.   The foundation which was established by Ghana's tennis star based in the US, George Darko presented food items, toiletries, water and other valuable items to the OTC. A team of tennis players who form part of Members of the foundation ( locally managed byHilda Naa Akushika Addoquay) led by Darko's sister Adjei Michelle Twumwaa and Auntie Janet Osei were all present during the donation.   Speaking at the presentation, Michelle Twumwaa inspired the OTC patrons to be like George Darko by not to give up on whatever they do"George is the type that never gives up, no matter the circumstances he finds himself in. Jude Asiedu resisted stiff opposition from 3-time champion Eric Okyere and Emmanuel Amos-Banyie to win the 8th edition of Goldfields Internal Tennis Tourney- Tarkwa. In-form Jude Asiedu lived up to expectations of his teeming fans who urged him on to ease past Emmanuel Amos-Banyie 9-8(6)and 9-5 against 9-5 in the top three round robin game. Eunice Mintah and Tracy Ampah were the finalists with Eunice Mintah winning 9-7 to lift the ladies trophy in the Women’s event. In the women’s doubles: Tracy Ampah and Georgina Adusei earlier on defeated Eunice Minta and her sister Roseline Afari-Minta in the final which was keenly contested. Tracy again paired up with Osman Karim and ousted former champions Eric Okyere and Ruby Sanoah in the mixed doubles category. Sakumono wins Bayport Tennis Cup

Sakumono Tennis Club, last Saturday, put up a gritty performance to defeat Volta River Authority Tennis Club(VRA), 7-6 in the Bayport Tennis Cup played at the Sakumono Tennis Courts. In all, 13 games were played with the host winning five singles and two doubles. The tournament started with the Men’s singles as Yaw Akotuah of VRA ousted Fred Tsye 7-1 . Festus Alhassan however turned the tables around for the Sakumono team with some fabulous plays, spiced with creativity, precision and power in the game against Alfred Okang. Big Godwin Martey maintained the home team's winning streak as he defeated Nortey  Lokko 7-6(1). Daniel Oduro also recorded another win for the home team beating Paapa Kwarteng 7-6(6).  In the women’s singles, VRA’s Adwoa Agyakoma lost 7-1 to Faustina Tagoe, whiles home favorite, Tina Yamak, also defeated Serwa Akoto 7-0. Bayport Tennis Cup: Sakumono Tennis Club To host VRA Tennis Club

Sakumono Tennis Club  will host their counterparts from Akosombo, Volta River Authority Tennis Club in a special friendly tennis game this weekend. The one-day tourney which will take place on Saturday 24th November 2018, is sponsored by Bayport Savings and Loans and will see some of the best tennis players from Sakumono Tennis Club led by Henry Akwaboa, Sammy  Ewool, Frank Eshun, Tina Yamak, Louisa Davies and Eric Owusu. Whiles the visiting team from VRA Tennis Club will parade a formidable squad also led by Sensational Captain Alfred Okang, Shanu Lamptey, Nii Akwei. Ghana Wheelchair Tennis Holds National Juniors Wheelchair Tennis Clinic

Ghana Wheelchair Tennis, on Saturday 3rd November 2018, as part of ITF Wheelchair Tennis Development program for 2018 undertook wheelchair Tennis clinic at Orthopedic Training Centre Tennis Courts in Nsawam, Eastern Region with the purpose of introducing more children with physical disability into the game of Wheelchair tennis. Eighteen (18) boys and girls took part in the training clinic. The one-day clinic saw juvenile players within the ages of 7-14years were taking through racquet control, rally over the net, how to use the racquet and how to socialize and play in a team environment. In an interview granted ghanatennis.org, coach Yahya Macaulay said, "I wished parents would allow their kids with physical disability to play Wheelchair Tennis, since Ghana needs more junior players to develop to create sustainability in Wheelchair Tennis in Ghana". Thrills at PMSPORTS Tennis In School Program

Over 100 children from Osu Presbyterian and surrounding clusters of schools participated during the introductory Tennis-In-Schools-Program held at the school training park by Peter Mensah Foundation (PMSPORTS).  Aspiring Tennis Stars between the ages of 7 to 10 years in class 3and 4 where ushered into the basic rudiments of the sport to help them build on their skills, self-confidence and socialize with friends for the long run. Coaches introduced Mini Tennis to participants and took them through the basics of the game. Children used mini versions equipments such as the softer balls, smaller racquets and mini nets. After the one-day event, coaches and authorities of tennis took turns to inspire, instil discipline into the future Stars and also advise them to take their education seriously. ITF Officiating level 1 Course Ends

International Tennis Federation (ITF), Tennis Foundation Ghana and Ghana Tennis Federation held a 3 day ITF level 1 Officiating course at the Accra Sports Stadium Tennis Courts. 18 candidates from Kumasi and Accra participated in the course. The course is expected to impact Ghana tennis greatly, since most of the participating officials are involved in the game of tennis. ITF white badge Officials Frank Opoku, Abubakari Lea-Yakubu and Godfrey Tetteh steered the course. During the 3 day course, specific areas covered included: * Rules of tennis * Officiating in tennis (Line umpiring and Chair umpiring). The closing ceremony came after the written exams on Tuesday 13th November 2018 and certificates of participation were awarded to the participants.
