Wheelchair Tennis Launched in Takoradi

Wheelchair Tennis was successfully launched in Takoradi at the GHACEM Tennis Club House, by the Ghana Wheelchair Tennis under the auspices of the Ghana Tennis Federation and International Tennis Federation.

20 Persons with Disabilities at the GHACEM Tennis Court on Friday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, 2018 were trained under the Wheelchair Tennis Development Fund Programs.
Participants were taken through the various techniques in playing tennis. There was time for them to practice what they had been taught, with many of the participants already showing prospects of becoming great wheelchair tennis players.

The Program, under the theme ‘Achieving Sustainable Development Goals for Persons with Disability through Wheelchair Tennis’ is help to identify potential national players, according to the National Coordinator of GWT, Henry Larbi

“We are trying to introduce wheelchair tennis to persons with disability all over Ghana. We are already in 8 regions and it is left with Western and Central Regions. We decided to come to Western this time to introduce the game to them and also to train the beginners, so that we can identify potential players who we can probably pay more attention to and develop them to be national players.”

The GWT with support from their mother body, the GTF, ITF and GHACEM Tennis Club presented Rackets and lunch to all the participants at the end of the two day program.

The GWT who have plans to visit the new Association in Takoradi again, will take Cephas  Ansah (Regional Chairman of Wheelchair Basketball) through intensive training in Accra by Coaches, so as to be equipped to train his members, in collaboration with the GHACEM Tennis Club.
