Samuel Antwi wins his first National Ranking Title



Samuel Antwi beats former Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF)/Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG) No.1 Jeff Bagerbaseh 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the edition 2018 National ranking Tour 5.

When the 5th National Ranking Tour began late last week Monday, Several players were tipped to win the title, Samuel Antwi was not one.

Antwi, 17, is considered a promising young player but has in previous tournaments had his excitement truncated through early exits by more experienced players. However, he psyched himself to perform well in the 2018 Tour 5.

“This is all hard work,” said Antwi. “Thanks to my coach Murphy and Andrew Appiah for their help.”
Jeff Bagerbaseh was playing his sixth GTF/TFG National Ranking final while Antwi was playing his first National Ranking final, Jeff displayed more eagerness in the initial stages of the game but Antwi quickly found antidote and offloaded on his helpless opponent blasting 10 aces to Jeff two.

“It’s a really tough loss but I’m really happy coming to my first final,” said Jeff, “Sorry I couldn’t get a trophy today but for sure next time.

With his victory, Antwi will now move up in the GTF/TFG National Ranking table.
