Herman Abban makes 2018 All- Conference Men’s Tennis Team

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced today the 2018 All-Conference Men’s Tennis Team.
The all-conference team, as selected by the CCIW’s head men’s tennis coaches, features a team of 12 student-athletes (six first team and six second team recipients), represented by six conference institutions.
Carthage senior Herman Abban (Accra, Ghana) won his second-straight CCIW Player of the Year honor after going 7-0 in conference play at No. 1 singles. He is the first player since Wheaton’s Ryan Kreis in 2013 and 2014 to win this award in back-to-back seasons. Abban and teammate Daniel Moore, also a First Team All-CCIW recipient, went 7-0 in CCIW play at No. 1 doubles.

Wheaton freshman Anderson Park (Belvidere, Ill./North) was named the CCIW Newcomer of the Year after he finished 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Park and teammate Dane Paulsen, a Second Team All-CCIW recipient, went 4-2 in CCIW play at No. 1 doubles.

Augustana senior Eric Pohl (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) claimed CCIW Championship MVP honors while helping lead the Vikings to their first conference title since 1985, finishing with a 4-1 record during the three-day event held May 3-5.

Jon Miedema won his first CCIW Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year award while leading Augustana to the aforementioned conference title. The Vikings won their first-ever NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship contest with a 5-2 win over John Carroll on May 11. It was the program’s first NCAA appearance in program history.

Also announced on Friday were the 2018 flight champions, which are given to the individuals and doubles teams that finished with the best record in conference matches in their respective flight (note: wins at higher spots in the lineup carry down).
