Tracy Ampah wins Gauteng North Junior Open Tourney
The match was entertaining, tough and nervy as Ghana’s Tracy
Ampah defeated South Africa's Erne Kotze in two tough sets of 7-5,6-3 to emerge
as the winner of the Gauteng North Junior Open Tourney on Sunday afternoon
in Pretoria, South Africa.
The final was indeed a "slugfest," featuring
thunderous serves, volleys and superb court coverage from two of the most
outstanding juniors in a match which needed, as it seemed, a temporary
"truce" or "seize fie" ordered from the heavens, with the
Ghanaian leading 2-1 in the second set, after winning the first set at 7-5.
Tracy Ampah who attends Umat Basic School and plays at Goldfields Tennis
Club, Tarkwa in an interview with ghanatennis.org said “I never thought I would achieve this. It’s just great that I
made it possible for myself and won these matches against good players. It was
such a great experience playing on that court. Many juniors who didn’t know me
before they know me now and they congratulated me, so it’s nice”.
For those who were privileged to watch sunday’s final however,
they were seeing the shape of great things to come from African tennis,
"the future is bright for these youngsters in their match towards
potentially brilliant professional careers if they continue their absolutely
sublime play
